River Nights Festival is back this year with bigger and spectacular lights displays at Singapore Asian Civilisations Museum from today, 23 October, to next week, 31 October 2015. Enjoy your wonderful night-time experience along the Singapore River with the ultimate lights installations by local and international artists which brings you colours of life.
This festival celebrates the Singapore River’s changing identity through the years, from vital trading artery in the colonial past to the current magnet for locals and visitors, drawn to its history and the colourful nightlife after sunset. Today, I visited the River Nights festival opening and here are the 5 spectacular displays you can find at Asian Civilisations Museum and also along the Singapore River.
1. 160
160 is an interactive light and sound installation consisting of 160 light bars covering an area of about 60 meters. The public can take ownership of the space by playing with the light and sound to create a visually stimulating and sensory experience. This captures attention, and echoes a fleeting moment from the vibrant rhythm of life alongside the Singapore River in the not-too-distant past.
2. Les Voyageurs By Cedric Le Borgne
This installation of larger-than-life human figures made of chicken wire invites dreamy wonder. The transparency of the material, when teamed with lighting, imbues these sculptures with a special, ephemeral quality. The artist sees them as a subtle and transient connection between sky and earth, between dream and reality. The work invites contemplation and meditation by questioning the unexpected, fleeting emotions one experiences.
3. Magic Trees
Unique cost-saving concepts that make a tree look more vibrant. A playful mixture of colour display with blue, purple and green, shining onto the trees located outside the Asian Civilisations Museum facing the Singapore Rivers.
4. Walter by Dawn Ng
Walter was conceived as a project to draw attention to commonly-overlooked and overfamiliar spaces. By popping up, guerrilla-style, across Singapore’s landscape of flats and heartland enclaves, Walter reinvigorates spaces and delights passersby. At Empress Place, we hope that Walter will interact with the old colonial buildings, inspiring thoughts of art and history, the old and the new.
5. The Chicken wire Couple
Compared to the above Les Voyageurs, whereby the human figures made of chicken wire, this installation is larger and is the center attraction of River Nights Festival. Play with the surrounding spot light display and it will definitely give you an unexpected result.
5. Delight By Yves Moreaux
With the Asian Civilisations Museum and Singapore River as a backdrop, Yves presents an imaginative, colourful lightshow inspired by the museum’s collection and Singapore’s multicultural heritage. Be the first to catch his exclusive work for the ACM at River Nights!
