On the second day of my Taiwan trip, we headed to Yilan and checked into Silks Place Yilan (蘭城晶英酒店). It is a luxurious family-friendly 5-star hotel in the heart of Yilan City. Located on the 6th to 11th floors of the Luna Plaza shopping center, the hotel offers a blend of comfort, style, and convenience. This makes it an ideal choice for travellers exploring Yilan’s rich cultural and culinary offerings.

The hotel features 193 elegant rooms, with options catering to families, such as themed floors designed for children. These include Fantasy Castle-themed rooms equipped with kids’ amenities, electric cars, and playful spaces like racing tracks in the hallways. Other family-friendly facilities include WOW WOW Land, an outdoor playground with slides, ball pits, and electric vehicles. The hotel also offers a cinema with unlimited movie screenings and a relaxing spa for adults. Parents and children can enjoy a mix of luxury and entertainment, making Silks Place Yilan an excellent choice for a family retreat.

SUPERIOR ROOM

I stayed in the Superior Room which measures about 432 square feet and comes with a king-sized bed which was really soft and comfortable. The bathroom was also spacious and features an open-concept bathtub. The room also has a balcony that overlooks the hotel’s beautiful surroundings. Unfortunately, it rained throughout the day so I was unable to spend time chilling and enjoying the view at the balcony.

I was impressed with everything they prepared for their guests – Loccitane toiletries, Dyson hairdryer, quality slippers, Yilan specialty tea, local snacks and their mascot stickers. All these made me feel extra welcome!

If you’re coming with your family, I recommend booking the family room which has 2 double beds and a tent. Your child will also get to ride an electric car throughout your stay.

Don’t forget to check out the spa which offers a luxurious and rejuvenating experience, perfect for relaxation and self-care. Unlimited Movies

Guests can enjoy an “Unlimited Movies” experience at the LUNA digital cinema located within the hotel. This exclusive perk allows hotel visitors to watch a wide variety of movies during their stay. Movie selections include a mix of classic films, family-friendly animations and recent blockbusters. This cinema is part of the Luna Plaza shopping complex where the hotel is situated, making it a convenient entertainment option for families and movie enthusiasts alike. To take advantage of this service, guests can book through the hotel concierge. Note that you can only redeem one ticket at a time.

Fantasy Castle

Fantasy Castle is a vibrant, family-oriented play area located on the 8th floor where children can engage in fun-filled activities such as the ball pool, Bouncy Bee “Do Do” and Ball Pool. The most popular activity seems to be the Electric Cars and Driving School as they can learn basic driving skills in a fun, simulated environment. Watching them driving around in electric cars makes me want to be a kid again!

Wow Wow Land

Wow Wow Land is an indoor family play area designed to entertain children and provide a relaxing environment for parents. It features three unique sections:

  1. Wow Show: A Disney-themed interactive theatre offering daily movie screenings with high-quality audiovisual equipment.
  2. Wow Bar: A Western-styled bar tailored for kids, providing free snacks and beverages alongside games and interactive activities.
  3. Wow Loft: This space is located on the 2nd floor and is equipped with books and preschool toys. Parents will be thrilled to know that they can leave their children (aged 4-7) under the care of experienced staff while they enjoy their own activities.

Wow Wow Seven

This is a versatile lounge area designed for family relaxation and leisure. It features a library with books for all ages, a mini indoor playground and a TV area perfect for unwinding together. The lounge also offers free refreshments and charging ports, ensuring comfort for parents and kids alike.

DINING:

I had a memorable dinner at the Red Lantern restaurant which specializes in Taiwanese cuisine. Their signature is Cherry Valley Roasted Duck, expertly prepared and served in courses, showcasing a blend of authentic techniques and modern presentation.

We had a 10-course menu with the highlight being the Cherry Valley Roasted Duck Cuisine in Five Ways. My personal favourite was the Roasted Duck Nigiri. The fragrance of the juicy and slightly crispy duck skin made it phenomenal. Definitely a meal to remember!

If you’re keen on trying out the food here, I highly suggest that you make a reservation so you won’t be disappointed!

I had my breakfast at Mix Gourmet the next morning – a well-regarded dining option offering a diverse and premium buffet-style experience. It features a blend of Taiwanese, Asian and Western cuisines, emphasizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients from Yilan. Make sure you try some of their scallion pancakes made with locally grown Yilan scallions, which are known for their exceptional flavour.

My lunch was settled at The Lounge located right beside Mix Gourmet. It has a more tranquil ambience compared to the bustling Mix Gourmet. I had their Grilled U.S Sirloin Steak with Sea Salt served with soup, bread, salad, dessert and a beverage. The portion of my main was huge sand the whole set meal cost only $990+ TWD so it was really value-for-money. The staff were also really attentive and helpful. Definitely a great dining choice if you want somewhere quiet.

Location: Due to the rain, I was unable to explore outdoors but given that Silks Place Yilan is situated within the Luna Plaza Mall, it offers convenient access to shopping, dining and entertainment. I did some late-night shopping at the Carrefour supermarket where I was able to get some local snacks as souvenirs for my loved ones.

Overall, the hotel is great for indoor activities and dining without leaving the vicinity so you will never be bored. However if you have the chance to explore outdoors, you can visit the Yilan Night Market for local street food or take a 20-30 minutes drive to attractions such as National Centre for Traditional Arts or Dongshan River Water Park. If you’re taking public transport, it is a 10-minute walk from Yilan Train Station.

I really enjoyed myself here so I highly recommend you book your stay with them if you’re visiting Taiwan with your family!
