Epson Inkjet Photo L800 is a single function color printer that uses a cost-effective ink tank system which provides low-cost printing at high volumes.   Thanks SAFRA for getting me to review this printer!

The L800 has a removable paper tray and an additional CD/DVD tray that enables direct printing of labels onto a CD/DVD which spares you from buying additional adhesive labels, a pretty neat feature for a printer.

What I like about the printer is, when the printer is not in use, both the input and output trays can be kept hidden and this saves on storage.
First up, let’s try the ink cartridges. Compared to traditional ink cartridges, the L800 ink tank system is more cost-effective in the long run as each ink refill goes for only $15.90 and prints up to 1,800* 4R borderless prints with just 1 set of ink and it also supports up to A4 borderless print.
*Based on ISO/IEC FDIS29103 pattern with Epson’s own methodology.
The system is fitted with filters and tank caps to control airflow and ensure minimal ink wastage from evaporation. There’s also a choke valve at the side of the tank to prevent any leakage during transportation.

Every 70ml bottle of Epson high capacity ink comes with a unique 13-digit code that ensures its authenticity and a cap for easy storage of any unused ink.

With a photo print speed of up to 13 sec per 4R photo, you can achieve much more with less time.

I timed the printing process; it takes less than 2 minutes to print an A4, borderless photo!

With a resolution of 5760dpi and the expanded colour gamut of 6 inks, you can be assured of great quality in photo printing.  Even printing on a sheet of 70g/m2 A4 white plain paper, the quality is still great though the color seems less vibrant compare to the printing on photo paper, but this is mainly due to the quality of the paper. [FYI, the below printout was printed at ‘Photo’ quality only].

To achieve photo lab quality prints, remember to select the ‘Best Photo’ option in your printer settings.

The printer comes with the Epson Creativity Suite that allows printing in 3 easy steps.  The following options in the Epson Creativity Suite allow picture perfect printing:
• The Red Eye Correction – Eliminate red eye effect
• Epson Portrait Enhance – allows adjusting the skin tones, colour casts and exposure levels.

The L800 is no doubt a great photo printer that produces sharp and high quality images with vibrant colors.  However, it would be better if it came with direct printing options such as Bluetooth which is a popular feature among new printers in the market.
