Located in the heart of George Town, the ever stylish G Hotel Gurney is always a delight to visit, even more so since its RM35 million facelift last year. Besides its iconic lobby lounge and Tree Bar that offers the cheapest beer in town, many did not know that there is a gallery on the first floor.
We were lucky to be given the privilege to witness the launch of ‘Gems of Heirloom’, the very first solo art exhibition of George R. Tow. George is a local artist who uses colours and strokes as well as time and space to express his feelings onto the canvas. He’s often called a living miracle because 10 years ago, he was left with less than a year to live.
That was when he saw a vision and a voice, asking him to keep painting.
10 years later, he is still standing strong and passionate about finding meaning in life.
There are a total of 16 painting in this art exhibition taken place at G Art Gallery from 7 September 2017 to 31 October 2017. All the paintings are available for sale. George’s goal is to ask art collectors to purchase his paintings and pass them on to their children. Therefore the name, ‘Gems of Heirloom’.
Later on, we were treated to a luxurious feast at their lobby lounge, G Lounge on the ground floor.
Who says you have to keep dessert after meal? We absolutely did not care about the rule!
We were spoiled with a variety of cupcakes and macaroons by their pastry chef, Chef Khoo Kang Theng.
There are 10 types of cupcakes where flavours including pistachio, green tea, chocolate, vanilla and more priced at RM12 each.
Meanwhile, they also offer mini cupcakes which priced at RM12 for 2 cupcakes of your choice.
Complement the cupcakes with a cup of coffee or tea by going for their Bitter Sweet promotion at RM25 only.
They have come up with 12 new bar snacks and light bites to cater to your appetite. Among them, our favourite would be the simple yet delicious Spinach Dip which is made of cheese and cream. It goes wonderful with their toasted French bread.
If you’re looking for something filling, go for their Charcoal Burger. Their patties are homemade and you can opt for either chicken or beef, so juicy that you would definitely ask for more.
Finger food such as French fries, chilli wedges(highly recommended) and sweet potato fries are available too.
Pair the food with their sweeping selection of cocktails, mocktails, beers, wines and more.
We would recommend rosé for cupcakes and red wine for the savoury snacks.
