It’s Sakura blooming season! Let’s take a walk at Gardens by the Bay Flower Dome to discover the Sakura Matsuri this month. Here are the 5 things you need to know before visiting Gardens by the bay with your family and friends.
1. Be enamoured with springtime blossoms and follow the adventures of Momotaro
The Sakura Matsuri floral display features over 500 cherry and peach blossom trees; including perennial favourites like the award-winning cherry blossom cultivar Prunus ‘Accolade’ with beautiful shell-pink blooms and the classic Prunus ‘Yedoensis’ with elegant white flowers.
Take photos with the Gardens’ Sakura Instagram filter and be surrounded by graceful falling sakura petals, just like in the movies! As you admire the blossoms, keep a lookout for Japanese folklore hero Momotaro and his three adorable animal friends.
2. Immerse in Japanese culture
Complementing the floral display are free cultural programmes like Japanese tea ceremonies, taiko drum performances and kendo demonstrations. There are also Experience Areas in Flower Dome where you can try out exciting Sony Playstation games or participate in a Danbo colouring workshop.
For fans of Japanese pop culture, a colourful weekend awaits at Anime Garden at The Meadow. With appearances by celebrity cosplayers, anisong concerts, J-pop performances, anime screenings and even fortune-telling, there’s something for everyone!
3. A unique Hanami Experience
Hop onto the Auto Rider which takes you from Bayfront Plaza to Flower Dome for the floral display. Don a yukata for that perfect photo amidst the cherry blossoms, then enjoy some Japanese snacks, green tea and sake tasting.
The Hanami Experience includes a two-way ride between Bayfront Plaza and Flower Dome on the Auto Rider, yukata rental, a hanami pack of sakura-flavoured snacks and green tea, and sakura sake tasting – all for just $20 per person.
