Moving from one destination to another is never hard for anyone in Singapore. Being known as one of the most convenient cities around the world, many places are easily accessible by public transportation and it’s pretty easy to move about in Singapore regardless of whether you are a local or a foreigner.
In order to ease the congestion during peak hours, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has launched the Travel Smart Network for commuters in July 2014. Here is where you can learn to travel smart!
Travel Smart Rewards
Let me share with you what Travel Smart Rewards is all about. With Travel Smart Rewards, you will get to earn reward points each time you commute via MRT or LRT on weekdays. On top of that, travelling during the morning off-peak trips (decongesting hours) will entitle you to higher points!
For your information, commuting during the morning off-peak period means tapping in between 6.15am-7.15am & between 8.45am-9.45am (applicable for weekdays only). In short, each km travelled on weekdays earns you 1 point on your Travel Smart Rewards, but travelling during the decongesting hours helps you to earn at least 3x the points and up to as much as 6x; depending on your status!
Achieving Gold/Platinum Statuses entitles you to a monthly lucky draw of $1500. Else, commuters can use the points earned to win cash rewards from the ‘spin the wheel’ game on www.travelsmartrewards.sg or get $1 for every 1000 points collected.
Free Pre-Peak Travel
Free Pre-Peak Travel scheme has been extended till 30 June 2016. This is how it works… Free train rides for fellow commuters who tap out before 7.45am; applicable to the listed 18 designated stations as follows:
*Bayfront, Bras Basah, Bugis, Chinatown, City Hall, Clarke Quay, Dhoby Ghaut, Downtown, Esplanade, Lavender, Marina Bay, Orchard, Outram Park, Promenade, Raffles Place, Somerset, Tanjong Pagar and Telok Ayer.
But for those individuals like me, dreading to get myself off bed and not making it in time to tap out before 7.45am, fret not! You will still be able to enjoy a $0.50 discount off your train fares if you tap out between 7.45am to 8.00 am at the aforementioned 18 designated stations. Well, at least there’s additional buffer time for some savings!
Benefits of Free Pre-Peak Travel
Eventually, Free Pre-Peak Travel encourages me to obtain a healthier lifestyle too! I tend to get out of bed earlier to hit the gym or a quick workout before going to the office just to avoid the rush hour.
On top of that, I managed to grab breakfast promos too as I reach early in the CBD! So much of savings can be done on top of savings on the commuting fare!
Alternatively, there are lots more places where you will be able to grab breakfast promo and KFC is one of them for as low as $3! The best thing is…KFC is everywhere (Be it in the CBD or heartlands)!!
Off-Peak Pass
Off-Peak Pass is offered to those whom are willing to travel during the off-peak hours.
Time to use your off-peak pass:
Cardholders of the above travel/concession cards may purchase the applicable OPP at any TransitLink Ticket Office, Passenger Service Centre, Add-Value Machine or General Ticketing Machine.
Benefits of Off-Peak Pass
How does unlimited travelling during off-peak hours on weekdays and the entire day on weekends and Public Holidays sound to you?
