Vicki Ng, a recent Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) graduate from the School of Design decided to spread a dose of Singaporean humour by personifying 50 iconic Singaporean phrases like “Chop Chop Kali Pok” and “Ya Ya Papaya”, she did not expect her designs to make their way onto UNIQLO T-Shirts via the UTme! app.
From 11 August to 31 October 2015, to commemorate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee, shoppers at its Bugis+ outlet will be able to print their favourite catchphrases onto UNIQLO T-Shirts for $29.90 (for adults) and $24.90 (for children).
Vicki’s project, 50 types of Singaporeans, was inspired by her observation of the idiosyncratic ways these phrases were applied locally. Isn’t it a good news for those searching t shirt printing Singapore? It ignited a desire to help strengthen and foster a more solid national identity using nostalgic and iconic Singaporean phrases. It had captured the eye of the South West Community Development Council (SWCDC), who made the first connection between NYP’s School of Design and UNIQLO.
