Although we have not quite bid farewell to the wet weather just yet, now is as good a time as any to start planning your 2020 swimwear collection for when the next dry spell hits. While there is no rulebook that states that you can’t simply slip into last year’s bikini or costume, it’s important to remember that the perfect swimsuit has the ability to make you both look and feel like a million bucks. While there will be no shortage of trends worth following this year, there are undoubtedly some that have more staying power than others. From animal print to one-shoulder tops, here’s a closer look at three of the hottest swimwear trends to look out for in 2020.

Animal print bikini

Animal print is making a comeback

Animal print has been trending for a few seasons already, and this one is no different. One of the greatest appeals of animal print lies in its versatility. In 2020, you can expect to see a whole lot more bold animal prints on everything from tiny string bikinis to long-sleeve two pieces. The trend will not just be limited to swimsuits but will also be seen in poolside accessories such as kaftans and sarongs. Animal prints of all shapes and sizes featured at recent runway shows, with snakeskin, leopard, zebra and tiger prints being the most popular choices among the top swimwear designers. Classic leopard print reigned supreme at Kai Lani, while both Cia Maritima and Vitamin A seemingly favoured different shades of tiger print.

Bikini bottoms

Bikini bottoms are getting smaller

Bikini bottoms are getting tinier this season, which is great news for anyone wanting a full-body tan. Extra-stringy string bikinis were on display everywhere during the Spring/Summer 2020 fashion shows, with many designs consisting of nothing more than a small piece of fabric to cover the crotch and some part of the buttocks, and a long piece of string to tie it all together. Many top swimwear labels, including Natasha Tonic, Macaed, VDM the Label, Devon Windsor and Tropic of C, have embraced the teeny bottom trend and are sure to be flooding the market with hot offerings in a variety of styles and colours, with animal print and matt black being two top choices

Off-the-shoulder swimsuits

One-shoulder tops

Off-the-shoulder swimsuits are one of the more romantic swimsuit trends of 2020. These unique, chic swimsuits allow wearers to show off a bit more skin without being overly revealing, while having the added advantage of cutting your tan lines in half. The runways were filled with gorgeous off-the-shoulder designs that ranged from Lil and Emm’s sporty offerings in solid, bright colours, to the soft and feminine ruched bikinis with riffled shoulders from Chloé Rose. Other designers who showcased gorgeous offerings during the Spring/Summer shows include MIMI the Label, Poema Swim, Sonya Swimwear and Becca.

Strutting in a gorgeous swimsuit is bound to give your confidence a healthy boost. Always remember, though, that loving the skin you are in is far more important that sporting what is perceived to be a perfect beach body.

  1. First of all I would like to say excellent blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you do not mind.
I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your head before writing.
I’ve had a hard time clearing my mind in getting
my ideas out. I truly do take pleasure in writing
however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost simply just trying to figure out how
to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Many thanks!
